⚡️🇳🇿 NEW - NZ PM Says Netanyahu Has “Lost the Plot” as MP Ejected Over Gaza Debate
“If we find six of 68 government MPs with a spine, we can stand on the right side of history,” Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick told parliament, urging recognition of a Palestinian state and support for a bill to “sanction Israel for its war crimes.”
Speaker Gerry Brownlee ordered Swarbrick to withdraw the remark and apologize; when she refused, she was ejected from parliament. She was told she can return Wednesday, but will be removed again if she does not apologize.
The bill, backed by all opposition parties, came during a heated debate on recognizing Palestinian statehood after Australia joined Canada, the UK, and France in pledging recognition at a UN conference in September.
PM Christopher Luxon condemned Israel’s latest assault on Gaza City as “utterly, utterly unacceptable” and said Benjamin Netanyahu has “lost the plot” and is “not listening to the international community.” His government says it will decide by September whether to recognize Palestine.
