In the past, experience inculcated both discipline and critical thinking, forming individuals capable of living in society while developing their ability to reason for themselves.

Over time, a subtle shift occurred: discipline was eroded, replaced by a demand for ideological submission to authority.

From now on, what counts is no longer how we behave, but how we think. A disciplined citizen who dares to question dogma is more likely to be punished than an undisciplined citizen who adheres to the dominant doxa.

To sum up, instincts used to be trained to emancipate the mind. Today, we train the mind and leave the instincts to their own devices.

Discipline has become suspect, associated with a form of oppression, while intellectual submission is adorned with the virtues of tolerance or social justice.

In this way, times when there was a fertile tension between order and freedom, tend to become a space of conditioning, where critical thought is sacrificed on the altar of ideological uniformity.
