Paragon Solutions' spyware was contained in booby-trapped PDF documents sent to WhatsApp newsgroups, according to the social network.

The intended targets included an unspecified number of personalities from civil society and the media, according to a company employee.

A manager at Meta Group's WhatsApp instant messaging service said that Israeli spyware company Paragon Solutions had targeted a large number of its users, including journalists and members of civil society, Reuters reports.
